Design of an innovative catamaran

Marketing's brief
​

The aim is therefore to design an innovative catamaran that will facilitate nautical activities. Its dimensions are imposed as well as the number of boaters that can be accommodated:

  • Maximum overall length of 36 feet

  • Maximum overall width of 14 feet

  • Welcolme 8 people on board

  • Accodomate 4 people on board

Studies carried out 

​

Two types of studies were conducted: 

  • Catamaran style: exterior design, colours, materials, interior design...

  • Functionalities: furnishing, innovations, modularity, assets...

  • ​

Each student in the group proposed concepts, in the form of roughs, to submit the final decision to a vote and a rating according to these criteria:

  • Feasibility

  • Originality

  • Easthetic

  • Practicality

  • Link with the sea

  • Confort on board

Solution chosen

 

After consultation, we decided to focus our concept on the "seaside cabin", inspired by the river barge, because it offers the most relationship with the sea and allows us to develop the points expected by the customer such as sunbathing and water sports. we decided not to use a flybridge (floor overlooking the boat that can serve as a steering position or a convivial space) to keep a reduced height, and therefore a better balance. In terms of innovation and novelty, we will focus on modularity, like modern motorhomes, to expand spaces, and transform the functions of a product according to the need and time of day, to the envy of users.

Our final product is called Svane 36: Svane meaning "Swan" in Swedish, and 36 for its total length. His style is resolutely Scandinavian, so we choose representations in a Scandinavian setting: fjords and wild beaches.

During the day, dive into the clear waters of the fjords and welcome the sun's rays, at night have fun or enjoy the calm for a refreshing sleep... Svane 36 adapts to the tempo of your activities. 

​

Its dimensions, 36 feet long and 14 feet wide, are generous while preserving the spirit of your childhood cabin on the beach.

 

Designed for the comfort of a family of 4 people, you can also invite your friends. In the rain, you can enjoy the interiors: a living room to cook and dine facing the sea, two fully equipped cabins and a bathroom.

We jump from the foredeck, overlooking everything, to dive into the sea. Sunbathing is available to wanderers to perfect a tan or have a drink. Modernity at the service of innovation, the Svane 36 catamaran produces part of its energy by solar panel. The captain drives his boat on a tablet and everyone can adjust the space on board.
